Silverton Dollar and San Juan Alps, Colorado

High Mt. 12'000 Ft. Spectacular Views, Wild Flowers, Historic Gold Towns. 5-1 Day trips. Rated 2 ½ dry to 3 ½ wet

Ouray and Silverton are located on Hwy. 555 in the San Juan Mts. The elevations will range from 7,000 to 12,000 ft. This is some of the most spectacular, breath-taking scenery in the Western U.S.

The day trips will all leave from Silverton, CO.

The trips all leave at 8:45 AM and return between 4:00 and 5:00 PM. I would suggest you bring a Lunch and Snacks. This area is noted for the afternoon showers, it is wise to always carry rain gear and a jacket. Even in August they can get hail or snow, so come prepared.

This trip is an exceptional one that the whole family can enjoy together. The price of this trip per vehicle. There are no accommodations or meals included in this trip.

The trips will go over the famous Black Bear Pass, Imogene Pass, Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, Animas Forks, Stony Pass, Gladstone and Red Mountain and more. We will almost drop in (literally) to the town of Telluride. We will see a very spectacular waterfall. We will travel parts of the Alpine Loop, on some of the days. Then it’s into Poughkeepsie Gulch, Copper Gulch and to Animas Forks. We will see some of the most beautiful wild flowers in Yankee Boy Basin area. We will see a number of ghost towns and mining camps.

We will be in many Historic mining districts that have numerous mines , with vertical shafts and drifts with old rotting timbers. There are many old buildings in the same decaying condition. Entering any of these are dangerous and could prove to be fatal. Use your own judgment as to what you want to do! Watch your children and your pets very closely.

The trip can be a Hotel, RV, or Camping trip what ever you so choose. There are many restaurants for dinning out if you choose. There are Forest Service Campgrounds, or private campgrounds in the close area. I do recommend the one evening at the Wrights Opera House "San Juan Odyssey". There is also the Bachelor-Syracuse Mine tour if you want to go over ½½ mile into the mountain.

Each day you should pack a lunch and plenty of snacks and drinks. This is a trip that you do not want to forget the camera or film. The clouds, mountains, wild flowers, streams and waterfalls make this a photographers paradise. When you are on the pike of a 12,000 ft. mountain, you have the world at your feet.

Special Equipment; C.B. Radio, Tow strap attachment points, Binoculars, Rain Gear, and extra warm clothes.

This is the planned itinerary and it is always subject to change do to; Weather, or any unforeseen conditions. Western Adventures hopes that this will be one adventure you will always cherish. I hope to see you on our trips real soon!
